The Grantham MechVentTM
The Grantham MechVentTM is a mechanical firefighting tool which reduces the possibility of flashover, the most dangerous time of a fire when temperatures reach about 1200°F degrees. It's a mechanical ventilator that when mounted to the top end of the fire truck ladder, it breaks through the window, and automatically positions itself at a certain angle through the window inside the room. It reduces the chances of flashover by removing built-up heat and smoke. It also allows the remote dousing of the flames with water when necessary.
Delaying flash over inside a burning room, can be critical to saving lives as well as for the safety of the firemen.

Where existing methods to ventilate a burning compartment require firefighters to go inside and use a fan to blow air into the structure and push the heat and smoke outside; the Grantham MechVentTM pulls superheated air and smoke from inside the burning structure, out the window, clearing the room within minutes.
Currently, existing methods require firefighters to physically carry and use portable water-based fire extinguishers into the unit to try to prevent flashover. When needed, the Grantham MechVentTM can be attached to the firemen's hose at the window, and utilizes a minimum amount of water, just 9 gallons at 10 second intervals, to strategically douse the flames directly with a sprinkler flow, and/or the fog nozzle feature can be used, which can also utilize foam or other fire suppression materials, to create a safe zone for firemen inside.
Finally, the Grantham MechVentTM facilitates the escape of firefighters or victims trapped inside the burning structure, by helping them position themselves properly to slide down the fire truck ladder, face first.
When flashover is delayed or prevented, then firefighters can more safely go into the building, to rescue victims and finish putting out the fire.
Grantham MechVentTM Features and Benefits:
reduces injury to humans at the scene
reducing property damage
reduces the spread of fire within the burning structure
reduces the spread of fire to adjacent exposures
facilitates escape by people trapped inside the burning structure
the tool can be remotely positioned at a window
